2024 Taipei International Poster Exposition
Global Visual Feast: Taipei International Poster Exposition Makes Its Debut
The Taipei International Poster Exposition grandly opened at the Chun-Tai Living Arts Space, showcasing 96 selected poster works from ten countries around the world, including Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Italy, France, Argentina, China, the United States, and Russia. This event offers the audience a unique opportunity to experience the diverse visual art styles from across the globe all in one place.
The exhibition is held at the grand staircase area on the third floor of the Chun-Tai Living Arts Space, where we have constructed an extended wall to display all the participating posters in one concentrated showcase. This arrangement not only enhances the visual impact but also allows the audience to directly compare the different styles, themes, and techniques, deepening their understanding and appreciation of poster art.
The Taipei International Poster Exposition is dedicated to promoting artistic innovation and experimental design, with a focus on advancing avant-garde design concepts and emerging art styles. We encourage participating designers and artists to challenge traditional boundaries and boldly explore new creative approaches and expressive techniques. Through this exposition, we aim to reignite passion within the industry and bring more extraordinary visual art experiences to Taipei.
Special Thematic Exhibition Area: Guest Jury Bird Pit & Riso Printing Studio HandSawPress
This year’s Taipei International Poster Exposition shines a spotlight on two prominent participants: the guest jury Bird Pit from South Korea and the Riso printing studio HandSawPress from Japan. The special thematic exhibition area will showcase a series of Riso-printed A3 posters created by both units, with all of these works making their debut in Taiwan.
Seungwhan Kim, an artist from Seoul, South Korea, is active on social media and at international art book fairs under the alias Bird Pit. In recent years, he has focused on blending and transitioning between various materials and mediums. His diverse artistic perspectives have led to invitations from multiple international galleries to hold solo exhibitions.
HandSawPress is an independent Riso printing studio located in Nishikoyama, Tokyo. They have a longstanding collaboration with numerous renowned artists to print posters. For two consecutive years, they have co-hosted the "Summer Zine Festival" with Shibuya Hikarie Department Store, attracting many creators and audiences. This event has infused even more energy into the world they’ve built around printing and creative collaboration.
New Competition Categories: Visual Award & Popularity Award
This year, the Taipei International Poster Exposition has introduced new competition categories, bringing a fresh experience for both participants and attendees while enhancing the quality and impact of the exhibition. The establishment of these competitions not only provides designers and artists with a more challenging exhibition platform but also elevates the overall standard of the event.
The highest honor of the exposition, the "Break Off Award," will be jointly judged by the guest jury Bird Pit and the organizers. The judging criteria include creativity and originality, visual expression, and practicality and functionality. The winner of the grand prize will receive a cash award and a trophy, and will also be invited to serve as a guest jury for next year's Taipei International Poster Exposition.
Additionally, the exposition has introduced an audience voting mechanism, allowing attendees to participate in selecting the Popularity Award. This initiative not only enhances audience interaction and engagement but also elevates the overall atmosphere during the event, infusing the exposition with even more energy.
Looking Ahead: Building a Collaborative Art Platform
The establishment of the Taipei International Poster Exposition is not just about showcasing artistic works; it’s about creating a platform for artistic exchange. This event is designed to bring together art enthusiasts, designers, industry experts, and the general public to explore and share their perspectives on visual art. We hope that this event will inject new energy into the visual arts scene in Taipei and around the world.
